Dear Families

As you know August 15th is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This year, since it falls on a Sunday, all of the Masses this coming weekend will celebrate her Feast Day. This Feast helps us remember the important place Mary plays in the life of Jesus and in the life of the Church. This foretells the hope we have in the Second Coming of Christ.  We believe in the resurrection of the body, and the theological message of this particular Feast Day helps us remember that. Jesus did not allow his Mother’s body to know the corruption of death. Rather, he Assumed her body into paradise and crowned her as Queen of Heaven and Earth. This feast helps us understand that in the coming of Christ all God’s Holy Ones will be brought before the Lord, body and soul. As we celebrate what God did for Mary, we pray that he will do so for us in the Coming of the Lord.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Scott Connolly
