Dear Families

               As we celebrate Labor Day Weekend, we might take some extra time in our prayer to hold up our employees here in the Parish Family. We are so grateful for all the time, talent, energy and devotion our staff offers us each day. I was especially aware of that as we celebrated our Mass in the Grass and Family Picnic. Yes, there were so many volunteers to help make it happen, but our paid staff was also “at the ready” and did so many things to help make it happen. This is but one example of the hard work that each of them put in all the time—which mostly goes unseen. I want to thank them publicly as we honor those who labor.

               We also pray for all those who have jobs in a variety of fields who bring life, creativity and joy to their professions. As Catholics, we are encouraged to make our “work” a labor of love and a “ministry” of compassion. Take some time this week to examine what you bring to your work. Try to come with a positive attitude and a special intention of trying to do the best and be the best that you can be.

               Finally, we hold people who are unemployed or underemployed in our prayers as well. Most people want to be self-sufficient and “pay their own way.” How difficult it must be to not find the proper employment or to not receive a just and living wage. We must be attentive to those who are trying to make ends meet, but are unable to do so even with a second or third income. We not only hold them in prayer but pledge to do what we can to end a cycle of poverty which doesn’t allow people a reasonable way to move up. May our labors in prayer and advocacy help to eradicate a situation which has a solution.

Queridas familias

Mientras celebramos el fin de semana del Día del Trabajo, podríamos tomarnos un tiempo extra en nuestra oración para apoyar a nuestros empleados aquí en la Familia Parroquial. Estamos muy agradecidos por todo el tiempo, talento, energía y devoción que nuestro personal nos ofrece cada día. Estaba especialmente consciente de eso mientras celebrábamos nuestra Misa en el Césped y Picnic Familiar. Sí, hubo tantos voluntarios para ayudar a que sucediera, pero nuestro personal pagado también estaba "listo" e hizo tantas cosas para ayudar a que sucediera. Este es solo un ejemplo del arduo trabajo que cada uno de ellos pone todo el tiempo, que en su mayoría pasa desapercibido. Quiero agradecerles públicamente mientras honramos a quienes trabajan.

También oramos por todos aquellos que tienen trabajos en una variedad de campos que traen vida, creatividad y alegría a sus profesiones. Como católicos, se nos anima a hacer de nuestro "trabajo" una labor de amor y un "ministerio" de compasión. Tómese un tiempo esta semana para examinar lo que aporta a su trabajo. Trate de venir con una actitud positiva y una intención especial de tratar de hacer lo mejor y ser lo mejor que pueda.

Por último, también tenemos presentes en nuestras oraciones a las personas que están desempleadas o subempleadas. La mayoría de las personas quieren ser autosuficientes y “pagarse sus propios gastos”. ¡Qué difícil debe ser no encontrar un empleo adecuado o no recibir un salario justo y digno! Debemos estar atentos a quienes intentan llegar a fin de mes, pero no pueden hacerlo ni siquiera con un segundo o tercer ingreso. No solo los tenemos presentes en nuestras oraciones, sino que nos comprometemos a hacer lo que podamos para poner fin a un ciclo de pobreza que no permite a las personas una forma razonable de ascender. Que nuestras labores de oración y defensa ayuden a erradicar una situación que tiene solución.

Khi chúng ta kỷ niệm Ngày Lao động, chúng ta có thể dành thêm thời gian cầu nguyện để nâng đỡ những nhân viên của mình tại Gia đình Giáo xứ. Chúng ta vô cùng biết ơn vì tất cả thời gian, tài năng, năng lượng và sự tận tụy mà đội ngũ nhân viên dành cho chúng ta mỗi ngày. Tôi đặc biệt nhận thức được điều đó khi chúng ta cử hành Thánh lễ trên bãi cỏ và Buổi dã ngoại gia đình. Đúng vậy, có rất nhiều tình nguyện viên giúp thực hiện điều đó, nhưng đội ngũ nhân viên được trả lương của chúng ta cũng "sẵn sàng" và đã làm rất nhiều việc để giúp thực hiện điều đó. Đây chỉ là một ví dụ về công sức mà mỗi người trong số họ đã bỏ ra trong suốt thời gian qua—mà phần lớn là không được nhìn thấy. Tôi muốn cảm ơn họ trước công chúng khi chúng ta tôn vinh những người lao động.

Chúng ta cũng cầu nguyện cho tất cả những người có công việc trong nhiều lĩnh vực khác nhau, những người mang lại sức sống, sự sáng tạo và niềm vui cho nghề nghiệp của họ. Là người Công giáo, chúng ta được khuyến khích biến "công việc" của mình thành công việc lao động của tình yêu và thành "chức vụ" của lòng trắc ẩn. Hãy dành thời gian trong tuần này để xem xét những gì bạn mang lại cho công việc của mình. Cố gắng đến với thái độ tích cực và ý định đặc biệt là cố gắng làm tốt nhất và trở thành người tốt nhất có thể.

Cuối cùng, chúng ta cũng cầu nguyện cho những người thất nghiệp hoặc làm việc không đủ giờ. Hầu hết mọi người đều muốn tự cung tự cấp và “tự trả tiền cho bản thân”. Thật khó khăn khi không tìm được việc làm phù hợp hoặc không nhận được mức lương công bằng và đủ sống. Chúng ta phải chú ý đến những người đang cố gắng kiếm sống, nhưng không thể làm được ngay cả khi có thu nhập thứ hai hoặc thứ ba. Chúng ta không chỉ cầu nguyện cho họ mà còn cam kết sẽ làm những gì có thể để chấm dứt vòng luẩn quẩn của đói nghèo, vốn không cho phép mọi người có cách hợp lý để tiến lên. Mong rằng những nỗ lực cầu nguyện và vận động của chúng ta sẽ giúp xóa bỏ một tình huống có giải pháp.
