Father Scott was away this week so Jennifer Ibach filled in.

I must admit that it’s becoming increasingly challenging to look at the news these days. More so than any time I can remember, the headlines seem to be filled with violence on our streets, war and atrocities around the world, climate disasters, a broken government, drug overdoses, and a level of suffering that is hard to witness. However, each day I also see that God shows up for me and others with moments of grace both big and small, and I am reminded that we are not alone in our struggles. I see parishioners supporting people whose family members have died, volunteers helping to welcome refugees displaced by war, Vincentians offering hope and sustenance to neighbors in need, and so much more. Life is not black and white; either/or. As Christians, we are not immune to suffering but we also are not stuck in it because we dare to hope in God’s faithfulness and promise of abundant life. All week these thoughts have reminded me of Philippians 4:6-7…“Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and mind in Christ Jesus.” As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, let us take time to be grateful for all the graces in our lives and trust that God is present; hearing us, loving us, and taking care of our needs. I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving and some delightful moments of grace that surprisingly envelop you in God’s comforting peace.
