Dear Families,

This year, Catholic Relief Services’ Rice Bowl Lenten program marks 50 years of engaging U.S. Catholics in global solidarity. CRS Rice Bowl provides opportunities for prayer, fasting, and almsgiving through the Rice Bowl, Lenten calendar, and web resources (https://crsricebowl.org). Over the years, I have enjoyed watching videos with my children to learn about the featured countries, cooking meatless meals from around the globe, and reviewing the calendar together at dinner. At his very moment, millions of people are facing life-threatening levels of hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition. At the root of the crisis is a perfect storm of poverty, climate change, conflict, and inequality. The situation is made more dire by cuts to international aid and staffing (CRS stateside has had to lay off 50% of their employees and many overseas CRS employees are now out of work as well). This year, more than ever, we can step up as a Catholic community to recommit ourselves to breaking the cycle of hunger for every community around the world and answer Jesus’ invitation to give food to the hungry so that all may live with dignity. Make sure to take a Rice Bowl from the entryway of the church and put it on your dinner table this Lent. We will collect donations on Holy Thursday or you can give online at https://crsricebowl.org/donate

Queridas familias,

           Esta semana celebramos la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas. Tenemos la suerte de tener dos escuelas parroquiales en nuestra familia parroquial del sur de Seattle: el Centro de Aprendizaje        Temprano en St. Paul, que atiende a niños de 3 a 5 años, y la Escuela Parroquial St. George, que atiende a niños desde preescolar hasta el octavo grado.   Además, contamos con dos maravillosas escuelas jesuitas en nuestros campus: Cristo Rey Jesuit High School en St. Paul y Nativity Jesuit Middle School en St. Edward. Esta es una gran oportunidad para     celebrar a los profesores y al personal de estas cuatro escuelas que trabajan incansablemente para brindar rigor académico mientras enseñan liderazgo de     servicio y transmiten la fe católica. ¡Gracias por todo lo que haces! Tendremos oradores en las Misas para compartir un poco más sobre la Educación Católica.            Tuần này chúng ta kỷ niệm Tuần lễ Trường Công giáo. Chúng ta may mắn có hai trường giáo xứ trong Gia đình Giáo xứ Nam Seattle của chúng ta: Trung tâm Giáo dục Mầm non tại St. Paul phục vụ trẻ em từ 3-5 tuổi và Trường Giáo xứ St. George phục vụ trẻ em từ Mẫu giáo đến lớp 8. Ngoài ra, chúng ta còn có hai trường Dòng Tên tuyệt vời tại khuôn viên trường của chúng ta: Trường Trung học Cristo Rey Jesuit tại St. Paul và Trường Trung học Nativity Jesuit tại St. Edward. Đây là cơ hội tuyệt vời để tôn vinh đội ngũ giảng viên và nhân viên tại bốn trường này, những người làm việc không biết mệt mỏi để cung cấp sự nghiêm ngặt về học thuật trong khi giảng dạy về sự lãnh đạo phục vụ và truyền bá đức tin Công giáo. Cảm ơn tất cả những gì ông Bà Anh Chị Em đã làm! Chúng ta sẽ có những diễn giả tại các Thánh lễ để chia sẻ thêm một chút về Giáo dục Công giáo.
