Dear Families

                I recently had dinner with the new priest from the Ukrainian Catholic Church here on Beacon Hill. Fr. Andrii Oliinyk and his wife and twin daughters, were so gracious when they hosted me at their house (they currently live in the rectory of Our Lady of Mt. Virgin). I had a great time getting to know them and invited Fr. Andrii to come and speak to us about the situation in Ukraine. I know this will bring things home to us who don’t really have any contact with the war or how we can help.

                We have all seen the images of Ukrainian families desperately trying to flee their country as war rages there.  It is hard to know what to do or how to help but we can do something if we work together.  The Southeast Seattle Parishes’ Life, Justice, and Peace Commission Immigrant invites you to join us on Saturday, January 21 at 9:30am at St. George for a Community Meeting as we discern whether to formally sponsor a Ukrainian refugee family settling in our area.  Come pray, discuss, and discern with us what role we can play in this crisis.  What is sponsorship?  What are the needs?  In what ways can we partner with resettlement agencies?  What can our community offer?  How big of a team of volunteers can we gather to support our efforts?  Contact Jennifer at jibach@stedwardparish.net for more information.

Queridas familias

                Recientemente cené con el nuevo sacerdote de la Iglesia Católica Ucraniana aquí en Beacon Hill. Padre Andrii Oliinyk y su esposa e hijas gemelas fueron muy amables cuando me recibieron en su casa (actualmente viven en la rectoría de Nuestra Señora de la Virgen). Me lo pasé muy bien conociéndolos e invité al P. Andrii que venga a hablarnos sobre la situación en Ucrania. Sé que esto nos traerá cosas a nosotros que realmente no tenemos ningún contacto con la guerra o cómo podemos ayudar.

                Todos hemos visto las imágenes de familias ucranianas que tratan desesperadamente de huir de su país mientras la guerra se desata allí. Es difícil saber qué hacer o cómo ayudar, pero podemos hacer algo si trabajamos juntos. La Comisión de Inmigrantes de Vida, Justicia y Paz de las Parroquias del Sudeste de Seattle lo invita a unirse a nosotros el sábado 21 de enero a las 9:30 a. m. en St. George para una reunión comunitaria mientras discernimos si patrocinar formalmente a una familia refugiada ucraniana que se establezca en nuestra área. . Ven a orar, discutir y discernir con nosotros qué papel podemos jugar en esta crisis. ¿Qué es el patrocinio? ¿Cuáles son las necesidades? ¿De qué manera podemos asociarnos con las agencias de reasentamiento? ¿Qué puede ofrecer nuestra comunidad? ¿Qué tan grande es el equipo de voluntarios que podemos reunir para apoyar nuestros esfuerzos?
